A modern Renaissance bathroom

thumb bathroom4

The phrase “modern bathroom” is often associated with minimalistic interiors, predominantly featuring glass, chrome and stainless steel. While such a look can be very elegant, many people consider it too cold for a home bathroom.

Feng Shui and Your Bathroom

Special care and attention should be paid to bathroom design for two major reasons: firstly, they are considered ‘wet’ rooms because of the amount of water in its most natural state in taps, sinks etc. and secondly because this is the point at which sewage exits the property.

Turn up the HEAT with underfloor heating

heat1

Situated in the southernmost part of Europe, it is not surprising that Spain is famous for its wonderfully warm climate and its long summers, which often last until well into November. Andalucía, in particular, has a tradition of building homes to withstand the summer heat, usually featuring marble or tiled flooring, which helps to keep houses beautifully cool during the hottest months but can feel a little chilly in winter.

Home Improvements: small changes or total makeover?

home improvements2

As the old saying states, a change is as good as a rest and this is no less true when contemplating changes in your home. The Magic of Aromatic Candles

candles1

Scented candles provide an excellent way to fill the home with fragrance and colour, but it is possible to harness their power to achieve far more than merely providing a pleasant smell to camouflage unpleasant odours!
A scent – or a combination of scents – can have a powerful effect on individuals, evoking a range of emotions. What can remind us of a memory more efficiently than a fragrance? The Ogee and the Human Form

human form1

While the ogee has an important role to play in architecture and design, its importance in our perception of what constitutes true beauty is perhaps less well known.

As in architecture, the Golden Mean or Golden Ratio is all important; human beings tend to respond more favourably to people whose faces and bodies conform to the ratio of 1.618:1 which is also represented by Phi or the symbol Φ.

This is... Barcelona - Jean Nouvel’s Agbar Tower

torreagbar5

Barcelona – Spain’s second city and home to some of Europe’s finest architecture – is perhaps most famous for Antoni Gaudí’s magnificent creations, such as the still incomplete Cathedral Sagrada Familia and the phantasmagorical Parc Güell. While these creations undoubtedly represent some of Europe’s most celebrated landmarks, it would be a mistake to imagine that this picturesque city’s horizons do not extend beyond Catalan Modernism.
