qr codes3A QR (or Quick Response) code is simply a more sophisticated barcode that can be scanned by various – mostly free - smartphone apps, such as NeoReader; RedLaser, Barcode and ScanLife and convey complex information such as web addresses, smartphone applications, pictures or product specifications. Invented in Japan, they were first used by car manufacturers to track vehicles during the production process. With the recent smartphone boom, QR codes became part of Internet of Things, where they link real life objects to the Internet.

How do you use it?

QR codes can only be read by iPhones and Android mobiles. Some Smartphones are sold with pre-installed QR scanners. If not, you can easily download one of the many QR scanning applications available. Once you´ve installed it, scan a code by holding your phone close to it. The phone will then read the code and redirect you to a website.

Already these cunning devices are being used to offer prospective customers more information about products, services and special offers. Once you know what they are you’ll be seeing them all over the place!
